My Favorite Place

Some may find this topic to be a bit unoriginal, and perhaps you're right. It seems like one of those questions that would be on a "Getting to Know You" worksheet (the ones we get on the first day of school, with the same questions every year). But before you judge my topic choice too harshly, let me tell you a little about Christina's basement.
It's sort of like walking into a time warp; like someone froze the room in 1999 and no one has touched it since. We all revert back to our childhood, instantly shedding all tawdry facades and allowing ourselves to let go. We don't pretend to prefer baroque art or music, in fact, we all admit that Disney is our favorite. One entire wall is filled with board games, and the other with all the best Disney movies (VHS of course). These two things are enough to keep us entertained for hours, and time just seems to stand still.
Lying on a big comfy couch, we all feel free to say absolutely anything we want. We can talk about people who have been acting perfidy, or have just gotten on our nerves. We can scream, sing, or do absolutely anything we want in Christina's basement. If I feel as though I've hit a nadir in my life, walking in is like going back in time, back to when things were much simpler.
When someone else walks in (such as Christina's brother), he will often find us dancing maladroitly around the room, doing things we would never do on an actual dance floor. We've grown accustomed to the stigma that might come with this, and none of us mind. Some may think we have ceded our dignity, and maybe they're right. All I know is I much prefer it that way.
There is no other place that I have ever felt as comfortable, or as free. We can be whoever we want to be, without fear of any judgement. All we do is laugh, laugh loudly and constantly and for hours. Hours that mean nothing, because time means nothing. There is a working clock in the basement, but the numbers simply don't make sense in our head. Sometimes it's because we aren't willing to comprehend the notion that we have been lying in her basement for twelve hours. But usually we don't even look because we're much too preoccupied with our own fun.

Even though most of the time I think you are crazy, I have to admit this time you are most definitely correct with Christina's basement. It is a time warp where we can do whatever we want and we always have an amazing time. I always walk out of there thinking "what did I just do with my life?" but always feel refreshed (ha) like a new person. Maybe some think you are being ridiculous with having a whole blog post dedicated to a basement, but you know what, at least I agree too so you aren't alone in your craziness!

I love how even though you're agreeing with me and attempting to validate my argument, we have to make sure everyone knows that yes in fact I am a crazy person lol. But hey! At least you admit you're right there with me...

I have dedicated whole posts to far more bizarre things; for me talking about a basement would be more towards the 'normal' end of the scale.

As for your claims of craziness...well if you want to think you are crazy I won't try to refute it, but I don't think that talking about a basement is enough to prove it.

Happy new year, by the way.

oh nonono billy willy i am not saying that because sam enjoys christina's basement she is a crazy person. i was trying to say that it adds juuust a little bit to her craziness.
as for this post being more on the normal scale...i'm not so sure. however the most exciting posts are original.

nice picture by the way!

Yes, nice picture!

Jess, I am not accusing you of calling anyone crazy; I was simply responding to Sam's comment in which she jokingly declares herself to be crazy.

But I stand by what I said before--this post is very normal, at least in comparison to what I write about. Really, what's wrong with writing about a basement?

there's nothing wrong with writing about a basement, billy willy, i'm just saying most people do not talk about basements. maybe your posts are weirder but this is just not a common topic. i am really excited you like the picture by the way.
by the way billy willy...i am kind of offended that you don't follow my blog. it hurts me because i thought we were long term friends (since seventh grade when you cheated off of me!)

"Cheating off of you?" I'm almost insulted. Besides, I can't seem to recall anything of the sort.

I do follow your blog.

omg thanks! and billy willy...come on now you know you cheated off of me. every time you beat me. please tell the truth.

Obviously it makes perfectly logical sense that I would get a higher score on a test than you if I used your answers. (sarcasm; I hope you see the fallacy)

jess m. said...

billy you are always so mean to me. do you want me to cry?

Bill said...

Oh, give me a break. Pointing out an inherent flaw in your argument is not "mean," nor is it grounds for crying.

steve y said...

Well, Billy, potentially cheating off somebody COULD result in better scores than the person who was being cheated off of. She never claimed that you cheated off her on the entire test. Thus, you exceeding her scores and cheating off her are both possible, since it would be assumed that you only cheated off her on problems in which you were unsure of the answer. So to call it a fallacy or an inherent flaw in her argument is a fallacy in itself.

No need to get all defensive. Your argument is technically correct but unlikely--it would mean that I must have known the material well enough to discern which of her answers were correct and which were false...in which case I would not need to cheat in the first place.

But why are we arguing over this? It never happened. I mean really, you know me well enough. Would I do that?
